PAAU Launches Monthly Fitness Exercise, Promotes Healthy Living Among Staff and Students

Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, has launched a monthly fitness exercise programme aimed at promoting healthy living, physical wellbeing, and improved productivity among staff and students.

Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has commenced a monthly fitness exercise programme as part of efforts to promote a culture of healthy living and improve the physical wellbeing of members of its academic community.

The initiative was officially flagged off on Saturday at the university stadium by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, who urged staff and students to embrace regular physical exercise as an essential component of a healthy and productive lifestyle.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Rufai Sani Abdullahi, the Vice-Chancellor announced that the first Saturday of every month would henceforth be observed as PAAU Fitness Exercise Day.

Addressing participants at the maiden edition of the programme, Professor Abdullahi emphasized the importance of maintaining good health, describing wellness as a critical factor in achieving personal and professional success.

According to him, regular participation in fitness activities contributes significantly to improved productivity, enhanced efficiency, and better overall performance in both workplace and personal engagements.

He commended members of staff, students, and sports enthusiasts who turned out in large numbers for the exercise, noting that their participation reflected a growing awareness of the importance of physical fitness and collective wellbeing.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor also praised the Director of Sports, Mr. Moses Balogun, and his team for successfully organizing the event and laying the foundation for what he described as a sustainable wellness initiative within the institution.

He encouraged the university community to make the monthly exercise programme a permanent part of their routine, stressing that healthy habits contribute to a more vibrant and productive academic environment.

Earlier in his remarks, the Director of Sports explained that the initiative was conceived to foster a culture of wellness, physical fitness, and healthy living among staff and students.

Balogun noted that the programme aligns with the university management’s broader vision of promoting holistic development and improving the quality of life of members of the institution.

As part of activities marking the launch of the fitness programme, a novelty football match was organized in honour of the Vice-Chancellor.

The friendly encounter featured Steeler Football Club of Prince Abubakar Audu University and Federal University Lokoja.

The highly entertaining match ended in favour of the host institution, with Steeler Football Club securing a 2–1 victory over their counterparts from Federal University Lokoja.

Commending both teams after the game, the Vice-Chancellor applauded the players for demonstrating discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy competition.

He described sports as a powerful tool for strengthening relationships, fostering unity, encouraging discipline, and promoting mutual understanding among educational institutions.

Professor Usman reaffirmed the commitment of the university management to programmes and initiatives that enhance the welfare, health, and overall development of staff and students.

The monthly fitness exercise is expected to become a regular feature of campus life, reinforcing the university’s drive to build a healthier and more active academic community.
